Extended School

Mission Statement

"Our ambition is to make communities around The Hermitage, Bullion Lane and Newker Schools the best place to live, grow up and bring up a family.

We will do this by bringing together all of the people who can make a difference. (This includes children, young people and adults in the communities and the people who provide services and support them).

Schools, located within the communities are in a unique position to provide a focus for everyone's efforts".

Extended Services

The Extended School seeks to make schools the hub of the community. By extending the school's opening hours and by expanding its relationships with local community groups, support organisations and businesses, as well as with children and young people their parents / carers, we hope to improve the lives of all concerned.

Out Of Hours Programme

Students/Parents/Carers at The Hermitage are issued with a new leaflet each half term which offers a new programme of after school activities for the student community. This includes Breakfast clubs from 7.45 am with breakfast available each morning; lunchtime activities and after school extra-curricular. The school Gigabite provides a catering service throughout the day.

Wider Partnership initiative

Local community representatives, along with agencies who work in the communities around the schools, are working together to see how service delivery can be improved. By working together we hope to focus service delivery to meet community needs so that a difference can be made!

National Healthy School Award

The Hermitage and Newker Schools have achieved this award, which is valid until 2009. The Schools are encouraging children and young people to have healthy lifestyles through education and by promoting a school community that is happy, knowledgeable about health and working in a safe environment.

'Learning Together' Programme

This is aimed at Year 7 students and their parent(s)/carer or family member. A series of activities have been planned for each term in consultation with the parents forum. Students in Year 7 are issued with a 'Learning Together' leaflet at the start of each term.
