Autumn Term
Prose - students study a 19th Century Narrative unit consisting of either a selection of short stories or a novel. Some students may study a modern novel which emulates the style of / deals with the themes of Victorian fiction alongside 19th century extracts. The end unit assessments consist of a writing task - a piece of narrative writing in the style of 19th century fiction - and a reading APP task (Assessing Pupil Progress).
Spring Term 1
Drama - the study of a modern drama text including character, plot development and dramatic techniques. The end of unit assessments consist of a written task based on the drama text and a speaking and listening task involving the explore, analyse and imagine triplet.
Spring Term 2
Poetry - students study a unit of poetry called "Poetry through Time" which looks at a range of poetry from Chaucer to the present day examining poetic techniques, how language has changed over time and the language of poetry. The end of unit assessments consist of a critical analysis and a speaking and listening task based on the poems studied.
Summer Term
Media - a variety of media texts are studied including print and screen, focusing on analysis. The end of unit assessment is an analytical task and will be the media-based coursework piece for GCSE.
Homework
Homework is given on a regular basis and can take a variety of forms - reading, research, short written tasks and extended written tasks or projects which may be completed over several weeks. Homework set is dependent on he unit of work being studied and the specific sections of that unit.
