BTEC First Certificate in Business Studies
Year 10/11
This course is assessed by 100% coursework. Over the two years you will complete 3 units of coursework to gain your qualification.
The 3 units you will complete are:
Unit 1 “Exploring Business Purposes”. In this unit you will cover topics including the following:
• Business Ownership
• Business Activity
• Business Aims and Objectives
• Functional Areas of Business
Students will study 4 different businesses (visiting at least one of these)
Unit 2 “Developing Customer Relations” which covers topics including:
• Internal and external customers
• Customer Needs and expectations
• Demonstrating customer service skills through role-play scenarios
• Monitoring and evaluating customer service Students will get an educational visit on this unit.
Unit 3 “Investigating Financial Control” In this unit students will learn about costs, revenue and profit, break-even, cash-flow forecasts, financial documents and preventing fraud.
Support:
Every week there are dedicated coursework catch-up/support sessions available. There is also support documents provided for students on the school’s VLE.
Homework:
Usually their homework will be their coursework. It is expected that students spend at least one additional hour per week. However from time to time students will be set homework activities to complete that will build into their coursework and extend their business studies knowledge.
