Applied Business
Students can choose to either do single (1 A Level) or double award (2 A levels). The course will be a combination of exams and coursework. On this course students will complete the following units of work:
Single Award
- Unit 1 Investigating People at Work
- Unit 2 Investigating Business
- Unit 3 Investigating Marketing
Double Award
- Unit 4 Investigating Electronic Business
- Unit 5 Investigating Customer Service
- Unit 6 Investigating Promotion
GCE A Level Business
The course follows the OCR specification and it is an exam only course throughout the two years. Students are assessed on a combination of pre-release case studies on fictional businesses and unseen data response papers on real businesses. They will study the following modules:
- An introduction to Business
- Business Functions
Students who choose either option will have the opportunity to go to a Business Convention in Disneyland Resort Paris whereby they can learn about how Disneyland Paris operate as a business, their marketing, human resources and customer service. This is a very popular educational visit which enriches the student’s learning and understanding of business studies throughout their course.
Applied GCE and Tourism.
This is an Applied GCE that consists of three units within Year 12 and three units within Year 13. Assessment is mixture of both coursework and exams.

Unit 8: Travel and Tourism Project
Unit 9 Travel and Tourism – People and Quality
Unit 10: Current Issues in Travel and Tourism.
Unit 1
The course allows students to understand about the economics of the travel industry and the reasons why people travel, the nature of travel and tourism, the development of the travel and tourism industry and the roles of the different sectors within the travel industry.
Unit 2
The principles of customer service, the needs of internal and external customers, The induction and training that needs to be done so that the customers get the best service. The significance of product knowledge and the importance of customer service skills.
Unit 3
The course of Travel and Tourism will allow students to gain a wide variety of knowledge within the travel industry with regards to the customer industry, the way in which the customers choose their travel destinations with regards to the climate and the landscape. Students will learn how to conduct welcome scripts to differing customer types at differing hotels in destinations.
Students who opt for this course will have the option of an educational visit to Disneyland Resort Paris which will allow them to gain a better understating of the travel industry. They will also visit other travel and tourism related businesses/destinations to support their learning.
