AQA Specification
The A2 course consists of the AS units (50% of the final A level) plus three more units of work studied at a higher level.

Unit 4
Music In Context 20%
Section A
* This unit tests all of the knowledge, understanding and skills you have developed across the whole course.
* FINAL EXAMINATION = 45 minute listening paper. HISTORICAL STUDY Section B
* DURING THE COURSE you will extend your knowledge from the AS course. You will analyse a set work in great depth. (Vaughan Williams, Symphony No.5) You will study either Choral music of the 20th Century or Four decades of Blues and Jazz. Research, listening and written work will be included.
* FINAL EXAMINATION = 1 hour 30 minutes, written paper in which you will answer two essay questions.

Unit 5
Compsing Techniques 15%
* DURING THE COURSE you will develop skills in harmonising a Bach chorale and composing part of a classical string piece.
* You will complete all work using the ICT Sibelius programme.
* FINAL EXAMINATION = 20 hours to complete a Bach chorale and part of a movement of a string quartet.
UNIT 6 PERFORMING 15%
* You will plan and rehearse for a FINAL SOLO RECITAL.
* It will last 10-15 minutes.
* It will show off your performing skills!!!!
* The standard of performing should be around Grade 7-8 standard.
